Bryan Butler was named head coach of the Saint Vincent women's soccer program in January 2022.
A graduate of fellow Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) member Geneva College, Butler arrives at Saint Vincent with a wealth of NCAA Division-III women's soccer coaching experience.
Butler spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Montclair State University (N.J.). He assisted in all aspects of the program, including practice and game planning and preparing scouting reports and film analysis. Butler was actively engaged in all fundraising along with camps and ID clinics. He also handled all recruiting efforts for the program, from identifying and scouting prospective student-athletes to arranging visits and campus tours.
During his two seasons on the sidelines at Montclair, the Red Hawks went a combined 17-5-2. In the COVID-abbreviated 2021 spring season, the squad went 5-0-2 and captured the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) championship. In the 2021 fall campaign, they finished 12-5 overall and 7-2 in conference play to place second in the perennially strong NJAC. The Red Hawks were ranked #3 in the Division-III Region IV rankings during the 2021 season, while seven players earned All-NJAC honors.
Prior to his time in New Jersey, Butler served as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the women's soccer program at DeSales University from May 2016 through July 2020. He headed the team's recruitment efforts and was responsible for assisting in all day-to-day operations of the program both on and off the field.
Butler helped lead the Bulldogs to the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) playoffs in each of his four seasons with the programs, including a pair of trips to the MAC championship finals. The team went a combined 41-30-4 overall, and 18-9-1 in conference play, over the four-year span.
Butler began his coaching career at his alma mater, Geneva College, serving as an assistant coach for the men's soccer program during the 2015-16 season. He assisted in all day-to-day operations of the program and was heavily involved in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes. The Golden Tornadoes went 13-5-1 during the 2015 campaign and advanced to the PAC title game, while also earning a bid to the ECAC Division-III Championship Tournament.
Butler enjoyed a stellar playing career for the Golden Tornadoes from 2011-14. A four-year starter at goalkeeper, he was a four-time All-PAC honoree, a two-time All-Region selection and was named All-America by the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). He ranks second in Geneva program history for career shutouts (23) and posted a 1.12 goals-against average in 76 career games played.
After concluding his playing career at Geneva, Butler spent one season playing for the Washington, D.C.-based Evergreen Diplomats of the professional American Soccer League, helping lead the team to the playoffs in 2015.
A native of Millersville, Maryland, Butler graduated from Geneva with a bachelor's degree in sports management and a minor in coaching, before earning a master of science in sports administration from Liberty University in Oct. 2016.
Butler, his wife, Dayna, and son, Grayson, will reside in Hempfield Township.
Matt Davis was named head coach of the Saint Vincent College men's soccer program in January 2022, arriving at Saint Vincent with a wealth of Division-III head and assistant coaching experience.
In his first two seasons with the Bearcats, Davis has led the Bearcats to 11 total wins. The 11 wins mark the most wins for the program over a two-season span since the 2008-2009 seasons. During the 2023 season, the Bearcats won six games in a season for the first time since 2014 with a lineup heavily consisting of freshmen and sophomores. In his two seasons, Davis, who has an career coaching record of 124-89-17, has also led four players to All-PAC Accolades.
In his first season as head coach of the Bearcats in 2022, he led Saint Vincent to 5-9-4 record, their most wins since 2014. Under the direction of Davis, he helped junior midfielder Jose Hurtado and sophomore Eduardo Richa to All-PAC accolades, with each earning Honorable Mention All-PAC honors. Davis' first win as head coach of the Bearcats came came in the season opener as the Bearcats shut out Wilson 2-0 at UPMC Field on September 2. Saint Vincent also scored a big 3-2 win against Washington and Jefferson on September 24, the Bearcats first win against the Presidents since 2011.
From 2019-22, Davis had served as the assistant men's soccer coach and recruiting coordinator at Williams College. He assisted in all day-to-day aspects of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) program, including in-game strategy, training sessions, scouting and video review, while also overseeing the program's recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
He helped the Ephs twice qualify for the NESCAC postseason. In 2019, Williams was ranked #7 in the NCAA New England Regional Rankings, while the team produced one All-American and CoSIDA Academic All-American, as well as three All-New England Region honorees. The team also excelled in the classroom, being recognized with the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Team Academic Award. In the recently-completed 2021 season, the Ephs again qualified for the NESCAC playoffs, and defeated a pair of nationally ranked opponents during the season.
From 2014-19, Davis served as head men's and women's coach at nearby Mount Aloysius College, where he transformed both programs into perennial powers. In his five seasons, the Mountie men reached the conference playoffs in each season and tallied an overall record of 61-33-6, while the women went a combined 52-37-5. He led the men's program to its first ever Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship and NCAA Division III national playoff berth in 2015, while his 2018 women's squad advanced to the AMCC championship game for the first time in team history and won a program-record 14 games. In Davis's five-year tenure, 29 men's players and 23 women's players earned All-AMCC accolades, while a total of nine players were named Great Lakes All-Region. For three years, Davis also served as a representative on the NCAA Division-III Soccer Regional Advisory Committee for the Great Lakes Region.
Davis began his coaching career at Mount Aloysius as an assistant men's and women's soccer coach for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. He served as each team's goalkeeping coach, while he also oversaw all recruiting efforts. During the 2013 season, both teams set new records for wins in a season, while the men's program earned its first conference playoff berth in program history with a starting lineup comprised of nine freshmen.
Davis is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Albright College, where he earned bachelor's degrees in business administration and communication. He was a four-year member of the men's soccer team at Albright, serving as a team captain during both his junior and senior years. As a junior, he earned CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors and helped the Lions achieve their second-highest win total in the program's history.
Following his graduation from Albright, Davis earned his MBA, with a focus on project management, from Mount Aloysius.
Along with his coaching experience, Davis holds a United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma along with Level I and II Goalkeeping Diplomas.
He and his wife, Brooke, reside in Latrobe with their daughter Charlotte and son Theo
